Groovey DJ names

4th February 2005

It is important if you want to become a DJ, to have a catchy name!!! Actually I just think it is funny telling people that.

So yes, I have a rather evil/simple sense of humour, it can be a downfall if you have to address a Christian convention and your jokes are all, well evil. My great friend Alex has a great sense of humour, rather evil and a lot of our jokes are un-repeatable due to the "had to be there" factor and the shocking content, See his blog if you don't believe me. (He's posted a story that is totally on a “had to be there” basis ie pointless explaining it)

I thought it would be funny to actually have DJ name and for a while DJ Chemical Allie was rather amusing, Actually if you google it, I'm on the LGBT site for that launch night, well for about a year or so. Then I realised it was rather wanky and also offensive to certain people, and humour doesn't always have to have a victim.

It also made me sound like a political activist DJ, not to say I am not aware of current events, (a recent viewing of "have I got news for you" and me getting ALL the jokes sort of freaked me out, since the flatmate's girlfriend who was 18 at the time didn't really like it, and me 21 that's not a big gap bytheway), I'm just not that way inclined and it's about the music man!!

I also thought calling my radio show on hospital radio "house bound" was funny,(works on two levels becuase I play House, well I was planning on but actually play every style of music) now I feel really evil, but from working in that very hospital, I know that the vast majority of the patients also have very dry senses of humour, or dark at least.

So my mate Alex, who is getting a groovy set of cd decks off of ebay for cheap, (I'll add the link so you can outbid him just to annoy him hehehehehehe only kidding) thought he could be called Electric Ally (short for Alex) or just common or garden Electric Alex, so I thought being a thief, that I would call myself Electric Allie, since I'm studying Electronics and Judge Joules did law, stands to reason!! However it's difficult not to get branded Wanky being a student at Glasgow University.

I think DJ Evil is quite cool, ahem (no irony there)

I noticed that the big female DJs have groovey names, also the examples I am about to give are all called Lisa…

Lisa Littlewood, Scottish one, pretty serious name but it works I think she plays the same stuff as me but is famous in the scene oh and there was that show she has on the RADIO, Lisa Lashes, I think she is into her hard house, I know the next one is Lisa pinup, now it is appealing to the male market, since the vast majority of people involved in the whole palaver of Dance, clubs, record shops, DJs are male

There are lots more female DJs cropping up but these three all have Lisa in their names

Now I didn't mention this before (since it isn't important (present tense because it still isn't)) but I have an alter ego, Lisa Crook, (sometimes pronounced Liza Cook) Similar to my real name but still, somewhat, different, heh heh, but I'm not using that obviously

I only use it to get out of things furthermore; the word Allie has so much going for it, DJ Alliebi heh heh,

dark Allie, hmm actually this is taking this subject a bit far.

Anyway catch ye later

DJ Evil

PS: When anybody asks me for advice on DJing I do give them great hints and point them in the direction of that groovey site I read when I first started, but I also like to add the following (just for a laugh!!)...

"...and you'll need a good name, like a porn name or Star-Wars name but not as contrived, now think up four possible names and see what I think. Add the word "steel" into one of them and "bandit" into another, and another one including a hobby other than djing, and finally a name that has the first three letters of you first name first three letters of your mother's maiden name (actually that last formula is actually half of my star wars name)"

using my own advice I come up with the following
DJ wheels of Steel
the House Bandit
DJ Stamp Collector
and DJ AliCat

hmm indeed, my mum's maiden name being Catto bytheway

The trick is to see if they can guess I am taking the piss, (a test of my sarcstic nature) if they do I say, well done that's your first test over and you passed since it's a cut throat business (heh heh) and there's no room for naivety!!! If they don't guess I just say "only kidding by the way" hmm I'm hilarious...
