Entertaining the public and all that Jazz

31st January 2005

I was visiting this nightclub last Saturday, since a good friend of mine who Djs there said that I could have a look at the equipment.

Change(Oh well, Bob Sinclar again but this time the fast paced track "freedom" FUNKAAAAAAYY!)

Right I wont get excited ahem, anyway this friend was letting me look at the equipment he had in his booth, actually that sounds bad, The CD decks and mixer, no record decks since they were stolen!!!

The bar he Djs in is aimed at the 25 yr plus age group, so on with the cheese! Modjo's "lady" did fill the floor, I know it's cheesy but you canny beat it!! So it looks like I need to upgrade my collection so he can trust me on them for a wee while, also an incident with a Janet track not "working" (ie the crowd thought it was pish) and her brother coming in to save the day, but sounded dead slow, absolute rubbish!! Argh!!

I think i really stressed out my friend, I think he really worried about it.
Actually you have to have a few public mistakes to break into the performing in public experience .

Change(Right just stuck on the track "feel for you" disco!! yes I’m just going through Bob Sinclar)

It gives you something to put down to experience, I was doing the launch night for the LGBT society at Glasgow university with the help from my friend Lynsey, She brought her CD decks along, and me my record decks. However, I had been having trouble with my mixer all week, so that day I drove to St Enoch’s Centre car park.

Got the space at the very top, typical, and ran down to one of the lovely shops on Dunlop Street. The assistant might have thought I didn't know what I was talking about, but I told him I needed a really simple mixer, four channel with two fader sort of thing, got a nice wee one for £50.00, refused cables explaining I had loads of them then had to run to work at the hospital, was then late with the Glasgow traffic, un braw indeed.

When this party got under way, I hadn't had a chance to play around with the mixer, so twice during the night by accident I turned down the gain on the channel that was playing, since I thought it would only affect my head phones, oh how we laughed!!

So these thing happen, and the mixer is groovy,
need to change again(Michael Gray "the weekend" well it is Monday nuuuh)
The rest of the night went well, with a few funny requests, heh heh A lot of the gents at this thing asked for "love machine" I had never heard of this song, it's by girls aloud (or however you spell it, who gives a rat's ass)

anyway a young guy gingerly walked up and said he had it on his MP3 player, that figures I thought, no actually I was like "yeah lets stick it on!!" so plugged it in, pressed the tiniest play button in the world and the room went absolutely mental!! I even recall hearing a scream. I think they knew this song, so its good to always be able to adapt, and maybe advertise on the poster that you can bring your own MP3s if you really want to hear a song.

A good DJ is one that will listen to requests, playing them is another story, if they have it on MP3 and you brought the right cables, STICK IT ON!! Only if it is a specialised audience though. You might get landed with a die hard Robbie Fan. I am not one of those people, though I do use "DIE" and "HARD" in sentences when the subject of him crops up.

This weekend song last for ages, I like the bit that goes "AYE" I know what they actually mean, but Glasgow can bring a richer meaning to songs that go AYE!! like the Macarena.
Change(I spoke too soon Paul Johnson "follow this beat" it is quite funky)

Hmm I just realised another advantage of CDs, you don't have to change it all the time, but my CD player blew up before new year, and changing the fuse, whilst on the phone, nearly got me electrocuted, New years eve no less!!

Not clever for an electronics student in her final year. Mind you, you don't need a degree to change a fuse, but I thought I should have known the CD wasn't coming back to life after the first bang. I should really throw that out actually. Not as sick as keeping a dead pet, but comparably weird.

Hmmmmm indeed groovey link for playing live bytheway!!

And ofcourse the actual website that I have stuck on the right hand side under links.
