Addicted to Music

30th March 2005

Argh!! I've finally gone mad, I spent money today I didn't have on records and I feel great!!!

23rd precinct, what a shop!! ok i like it a bit more now, after speaking to the sales assistant about dj-ing and all the traps that come with it.

when I walked in it was empty, the way i like, anti social i know, but listening to records with headphones isn't a social thing, unless the whole room have headphone linked up to the same tune and a five minute recess to discuss our thoughts. Since the only person other than me in the room was the sales assistant, it meant I could get on with the searching for the perfect track. shopping for records with me is a no no, lets split up and meet in a couple of hours. I'm so eccentric, sigh.

I gingerly walked up to the gent behind the counter and asked him if he could recomend any funky house, he asked me if I had just started dj-ing, I quickly said, trying not to be defensive "oh no, I've been doing it for a while now" actually I think I might have used the word years, which isn't a lie since I have been doing it properly collecting and mixing for a few years. I said I like funky house and electronic sounds. we finally worked out I liked deep house and bought a little slam and some daft punk, some bloke called blake and another mylo track, and some really good music I can't name, really have to start remembering names, oh I also got a slap banging silicon soul track yo yo yo. in fact here is a quick link to the record lable based in Glasgow, very braw, I have a few records right now, but here is the secretive world (or not so) of SOMA ahem anyway.

me and the sales assistant guy chatted for a while about making, playing and buying music, mostly playing though. mentioned that I was interested in geting a bit of work as a dj and was just asking him how he got into the whole polava, actually I ask everyone how they do it. He was saying it was 5% connections and 95% luck, oh and skills or something, (I'll make up a better saying later)

He said he was arranging a night and would I be interested in doing an hour, warm up sort of thing, at the soundhaus, actually this is a little boring, well not in the arogant way, more in the boring the reader sort of way. I'm trying to keep this relevent.

he asked me if I could beat match and I sort of laughed and said "yes", well I laughed since there was a time I would have said, "yeah a bit" but lets be honest I find it a piece of piss, now, mostly.

I said to him that I found it difficult at first, not being sure which track was too fast or slow, then did a gesture with my hand saying that I find it easy peasey now. then said "actually you really didn't need that little example, did you?" heh heh

it will turn out that the only interesting stories I tell are the ones where things go wrong, but this one could go ok.

anyway, I got some fantastic music and a lot of it was from soma, so big up yip yip, ahem
